Samsung Electronics launches Terabyte Hard Drive for Notebooks

SEOUL, Korea, June 9, 2011 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in digital electronics products and information technology, today announced the Spinpoint M8, one terabyte internal hard disk drive with 500 gigabytes per platter, for use in mobile computing applications such as notebook . Samsung Spinpoint M8, which consists of two 500 GB platters, provides users with one terabyte of storage space. Form factor with a height of 9.5mm will be more fit and comfortable in mobile computing applications.

High density is achieved by utilizing advanced technology formats (AFT), which increases the data storage density per unit area, allowing efficient data storage and convenient. Reduced number of components such as disk and Had also contribute to an increase of about seven per cent in operating speeds and decreased eight percent for electricity demand.

Dual-platter Spinpoint M8 operate at high performance 3 gigabits per second on a SATA interface, providing eight-megabyte memory buffer and combine features EcoSeek ™ and NoiseGuard ™ for minimal noise levels. A re-design to ensure an increase in the overall structure of shock resistance to protect the disk from a physical fracture and loss of data. CH Lee, vice president of strategic marketing storage of Samsung said, "The product line-up of the new Spinpoint M8 support sustainable growth curves for high density data storage density, primarily by raising the bar to exceed the terabyte level density in the mobile computing space." Spinpoint M8 is now mass produced and available throughout the world with a 1TB drive is priced at an MSRP of $ 129.00.
